May News

Executive News
Here we are coming into our last month of the quilting year ... already. Wow, that sure zipped by.
A couple of things are on board for us this month. First is our monthly business meeting at 9:30 am sharp on Tuesday May 8. This meeting is our annual AGM and while it'll be a short meeting (an hour) we'll be looking to fill volunteer positions for next year. Step up! Especially if you're a new member this year, don't be afraid, nobody bites! Second is our wind-up on our in-Guild day, Tuesday May 22. Sally has plans for us and will announce them at the business meeting. And don't forget there are two work days for the raffle quilt this month - the 15th and 22nd as per Diane's messages/blog post.
Hope to see you there, there and there!

Raffle Quilt Update

In May the guild will be working on next year's raffle quilt.  Here are the dates;
May 15 at 9:am Part one; the Maple Leaf block
May 22 - Part Two the Log Cabin portion of the block.  Since this is also the AGM and windup I'm not too sure at what point we will work on the block.
We hope everyone can make 2 - 3 blocks.
Definitely NO pastels, funky, art deco or psychedelics for either the Maple Leaf or Log Cabin fabrics.
For the maple leaf portion; a 12" square of  a homespun fabic  to make the leaf and stem.  Ideal colours are greens, reds, oranges, browns and rusts.  The leaves should be all one colour of fabric - not an assortment as in the photo.
The guild will supply the background fabric and you'll receive printed directions on the 15th May as well as the background.
For the log cabin portion of the block we want  2 1/2" wide strips of assorted fabrics.  Ideal colours are greens, tans, reds, oranges, golds, blues, browns and rusts.  Homespun style.  Plaids in those colours are OK but soft style.  The blues will add a punch but nothing too wild.  The tans should not be beige  but a darker shade.

Any questions contact Lesley, Gayle, Laura Jean or myself.

April News

Executive News

So much for March! We've had a taste of spring and wouldn't it be lovely if it stuck around? More sunshine is always welcome.
April has some fun things coming up for the Guild and I hope you'll all take part as much as you can. The first two Tuesdays of the month (the 3rd and 10th) are open days - bring whatever you want to work on and your lunch, and enjoy a day out among quilty friends.
Please take note that April 10 would normally be our business meeting at 7 pm, but we have to move it for lack of someone to chair it - me, Sally our vice-president and Rae our past president are all unavailable. Therefore, at the March meeting, the membership decided to hold April's meeting on Tuesday April 17 at 9:30 am. Items will include a vote to permanently move business meetings to daytime (second Tuesday of the month), year-end wind-up, a request for a donation to the Legion's pipe band, raffle quilt update, quilt show update, reminders about the WKQC Saturday April 21, and a short discussion around holding in-guilds through the summer. Please let me know if you have anything else for the agenda. Your executive would like to keep the meeting down to about an hour because .....
..... immediately after the meeting we'll start stuffing goodie bags and doing other prep for the WKQC under Rae's guidance. Please remember to bring your big/tall vases, boxes for transporting stuff, etc., as discussed at March's meeting. And you can also hand in your fat quarters and star blocks, as well as any patterns or other items you're donating for door prizes (donations get you a free admission ticket!). If you volunteered to bake muffins or loaves please don't bring them on Tuesday - bring them with you to the conference. Please direct any questions you have about the conference to Rae or Cathy, the organizers.
April's in-guild on Tuesday the 24th is a "no host, no teacher" event. It's Bag, Purse and Tote Day. Bring a pattern of your choice and whatever you need to make your item and we'll all give each other help with any techniques as needed. There are free patterns galore on the internet if you don't wish to buy a pattern, or have a look through the Guild library, the public library's quilt books, etc. Magazines are a great source for bag patterns too. I'm just finishing up my first ever bag and it was a lot of fun to make!
Rae, Cathy, Sally and I, along with Debra McCracken from Flamingo Quiltworx, are off to the Lutherhaven quilting retreat this month, and Irene and Rhonda P are attending the spring Chewelah retreat. I hope we all come back inspired with lots of projects to show 'n tell about and maybe even some new ideas to share.
Happy quilting!
Stephanie
